The Estonian Foundation of Canada Elects New President

The Estonian Foundation of Canada (EFC) unanimously elected Eva Varangu President at the March 2, 2015 meeting of the Board of Directors. Mihkel Holmberg was elected Vice-President, while Toomas Kütti was re-elected Treasurer and Peeter Põldre Secretary. The entire Board includes directors Lia Hess, Marcus Kolga, Eevi Novek, Merli Tamtik and Martin Weiler.

“We thank past President Lia Hess for her many years of service to the Estonian Foundation of Canada and are grateful that Lia will remain as a director on our Board,” said Eva Varangu. “During her tenure, Lia helped reinvigorate the Foundation, update our Letters Patent, expand our communications reach and increase donations considerably.”

As the EFC moves forward with new leadership and a renewed sense of purpose, the Foundation will continue to work with its partners, agents and volunteers to ensure that the Estonian community remains prosperous and strong in Canada. As the EFC celebrates its 40th anniversary, the Foundation trusts that its members and the Estonian community will join with it as the EFC transitions to the next 40 years.

The Estonian Foundation of Canada is the community's endowment and catalyst providing more than $400,000 annually to projects and programming across the country. The role EFC performs is crucial to ensuring that our language is still spoken, our culture is still celebrated, our history never forgotten, and our future in Canada will continue to be celebrated.
