National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada celebrates Canada Day and the United States Independence Day

This year the slate of politicians at the event was rather meager compared to last year when the keynote speaker was Premier of Ontario Kathleen Wynne. This time there were only two Liberal backbenchers and a mayoral candidate (Olivia Chow), no provincial Progressive Conservative and no federal politicians of any stripe.

National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada(NEPMCC) president Thomas Saras gave the opening speech praising the members for their hard work often without pay.

Olivia Chow spent time talking to people being photographed by everybody and with everybody, cutting the birthday cake and giving a non political few words. When Estonian Life asked her if she would be in the pocket of the trade unions she became hard and answered, “I'm in nobody's pocket !” Obviously not a repeat of ex mayor Miller.

The NEPMCC will have a display at the Canadian National Exhibition (August 15-September 1), International Pavilion behind the stage.
