The Toronto Estonian Chess Club’s annual Spring Tournamen

The Toronto Estonian Chess Club held its annual Spring Tournament on Sunday April 12th at the Estonian House at 958 Broadview Avenue. Eleven participants partook in this 5 round Active Chess Tournament. The Active chess format is 30 minutes per player. The tournament was governed by both Jaak Treifeldt and Jaak Järve. Before the tournament began the rules of play were explained to the players and a short demonstration was given to the proper castling procedures during a game.

The games were all exciting, with many nerve racking endgames. There were some blunders, but all in all everyone had a great time.

The final fifth round was especially interesting since we had Alar Petersoo playing a 13 year old chess whiz, Erik Kreem who fought his way to the final round.

Congratulations to Alar Petersoo who won the tournament with a 4 out of 5 score, second place went to Don Mosley with 3 ½ points and third place was shared by three players with 3 points, Farhad Bokaee, Brendan Munro and Erik Kreem (our new chess wunderkind).

The other participant scores were as follows:
Jaak Treifeldt 2 ½ ; Mikk Mõlder 2; Mai Vomm Järve 2; Mati Saastamoinen 2; Jaak Järve 1 ½; Lya Alang 1.
